Harry Potter TV Show Fancast Cillian Murphy Becomes Voldemort In Unsettling Art
Fan art imagines what popular fancast Cillian Murphy would look like in the role of Voldemort in the Harry Potter TV show, and the results are disturbing. Following the success of the eight movies from 2001 to 2011, J. K. Rowling's beloved fantasy book series is now set to be adapted into a TV show at Max from showrunner Francesca Gardiner. The Harry Potter TV show's cast hasn't yet been officially announced, but the Internet has been awash with reports, rumors, and fancasts since the show's reveal, with Oppenheimer star Murphy a popular fan choice for the Dark Lord.
Now, fan-made art by a user on Reddit depicts one potential look for Voldemort in the Harry Potter TV show if Murphy were to take on the role. The art features the character's signature snake-like nose and pale skin, but also includes the added detail of book-accurate red eyes, all with Murphy's distinct facial structure. What Cillian Murphy's Casting Would Mean For The Harry Potter TV Show
The Max Show's Casting Status Explained
It's worth reiterating that no characters in the Harry Potter TV show have been officially cast at this point. Reports have suggested that John Lithgow could be nearing a deal to play Dumbledore and that Paapa Essiedu is being eyed for the role of Snape. Murphy hasn't actually been reported by any reputable sources to be in the running for Voldemort, but the fancast has gained traction in part because former Voldemort actor Ralph Fiennes was asked about the casting on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, and he voiced his approval:
“Cillian is a fantastic actor. That’s a wonderful suggestion. I would be all in favor of Cillian. Yeah.”
Fiennes also isn't the only Harry Potter veteran to voice support for Murphy, as Sorcerer's Stone and Chamber of Secrets director Chris Columbus told EW that he thinks Murphy's casting "would be amazing." Murphy won an Oscar for his starring role in Oppenheimer and his star power has grown over the last few years, meaning he'd certainly bring a degree of prestige to the show if he were cast. Whether Murphy would actually want to be involved in the Harry Potter TV show, however, is not something he has addressed.
In addition to Oppenheimer, Murphy is well known for his starring role in Peaky Blinders as Tommy Shelby, in addition to his past collaborations with Christopher Nolan with Inception (2010), Dunkirk (2017), and the Dark Knight trilogy.
Our Take On Murphy's Possible Voldemort Casting
Ralph Fiennes Set A High Bar
Given Murphy's career thus far, it's certainly not a given that he would even be interested in appearing in a multi-season Harry Potter TV show. If he were interested, however, the art above suggests he would make for a truly chilling version of the iconic villain.

Casting Voldemort For HBO's Harry Potter Remake: 10 Actors Who Would Be Perfect
Tom Riddle, or Lord Voldemort, is a tyrannous villain. For the new Harry Potter TV show to succeed, HBO needs to make sure they cast the right actor.
Fiennes' portrayal of Voldemort was a highlight of the Harry Potter movies, and he made the character both scary and compelling to watch on screen. Fiennes has left some big shoes to fill, but Murphy's resume suggests he would be up for the task, potentially delivering an even creepier version of the franchise's big bad. It remains to be seen whether Murphy will be in any way involved in the Harry Potter TV show, but some official announcements probably aren't too far off now.
