Invincible Is Bigger Than Ever Before, And Its Creators Cannot Believe How Far the Series Has Come

There's little doubt that Invincible is a huge hit, and no one is happier to see it happen than one of the comic's co-creators. For the past four years, the animated series has brought Mark Grayson's adventures to fans all over the world and now one of the minds behind Invincible is reflecting on the franchise's success.

In a post on X, Invincible co-creator Ryan Ottley posted his thoughts on the show's season 3 episode, "You Were My Hero". Ottley discusses drawing the issues the episode was based on, noting how much fun it was and the effort he put into Invincible as it was coming out.

Ottley reflects on the good time he had making the original series with co-creator Robert Kirkman and how he values the time he spent on it. Ottley promises that there are more exciting moments to come, and thanks the fans for supporting Invincible and making it the hit it is.

Co-Creator Expresses Gratitude and Promises More to Come

Invincible's very first issue was released over twenty years ago and was published by the creator-owned company Image Comics. Invincible found a niche, but dedicated audience, who appreciated the unconventional take on superhero storytelling, as well as the rich characters, fascinating world-building, and its violent and bloody battles. Invincible was published until 2018 and ended its incredibly long life-span at issue 144. Around the same time that the series wrapped up, word broke that the comic was being adapted into an animated series. In 2021, Invincible debuted on Amazon Prime to critical acclaim and became an instant hit with fans.

Invincible was indeed a success when it was just a comic and not an animated series. Ottley highlights how appreciative he was of fans who supported the franchise back in the day, but also expresses gratitude for keeping that energy going. Invincible means a lot to Ottley (and no doubt his co-creators Robert Kirkman and Cory Walker), and it's understandable that he's ecstatic to see his property become such a big, cultural hit. Invincible has gone from being a niche fan-favorite to one of the most loved superhero stories today, and that’s something that would make any creator incredibly grateful.

Invincible's the Hit It Is Because of Every Comic Reader and Show Viewer

Did Ottley know that Invincible's comic success was going to translate when it was adapted into a television show? He obviously believes in his story, but one can never tell the future. That being said, Ottley knows that his, Kirkman's and Walker's series got as big as it has because fans have been passionate about showing support by buying the trades and watching the show on Amazon Prime. Above all else, Ryan Ottley is grateful for all the love and support that readers and viewers have given Invincible and credits them with making the franchise the success it is.
