It's So On, Spider-Man and Wolverine Are Teaming Up In a Brand-New Series

Wolverine and Spider-Manhave been forced to team up countless times throughout the years, but a new series is giving them a reason to work together in their first ever shared ongoing book. Coming from a creative team with a lot of both Spidey and X-Men experience, this title promises to test its leads in new ways - and may just have something to do with the mysterious pasts of both characters.

Marvel Comics has announced a new team-up book: Spider-Man & Wolverine, an ongoing series by writer Mark Guggenheim and artist Kaare Andrews that arrives May 7th, 2025. Guggenheim shared the first details of the series via Polygon, revealing that the duo will be hunting for the "Janus Directory," a list of every undercover spy in the Marvel Universe.

Guggenheim also lists a number of influences, citing classic artists for both Spidey and Wolverine from the '80s and '90s as the primary inspiration behind the book’s tone, which makes sense alongside Andrews, whose own exaggerated style recalls '90s trends.

This new story is far from the first team-up between Spider-Man and Wolverine. Famously, the two heroes often find themselves at odds when put together in the same book, with Peter’s strict moral code butting up against Logan’s willingness to kill. Miniseries like Astonishing Spider-Man & Wolverine by Jason Aaron and Adam Kubert have played up this odd-couple dynamic, forcing the duo into increasingly absurd situations where they have to rely on each other to survive, but the new Spider-Man & Wolverine title is their first ongoing team-up book.

A bonding moment between Spider-Man and Wolverine has become an official tradition that proves their unlikely friendship is one of Marvel's best.

Both creators behind Spider-Man & Wolverine have also worked on Spider-Man and the X-Men before in some capacity. Guggenheim wrote the series X-Men: Gold in 2017 and was also part of the rotating cast of writers in Spider-Man’s "brain trust" during the Brand New Day era in the mid-2000s. Meanwhile, Andrews worked on Ultimate X-Men #23-24 with writer Mark Millar, but more famously wrote and illustrated Spider-Man: Reign and its 2024 sequel, Spider-Man: Reign 2, both of which imagined a shockingly dark future for an older Peter Parker.

Guggenheim’s hints to Polygon also suggest the return of some interesting continuity surrounding Spider-Man. Guggenheim has already confirmed that Logan is in the Janus Directory, but readers often forget that Peter Parker also has a connection to the espionage world. Peter’s parents, Richard and Mary Parker, were also spies, first for first the CIA and then SHIELD, which eventually led to their deaths. If their history is tied up in the Janus Directory, then this series might not just be a fun, wacky team-up between Wolverine and Spider-Man, but a mission that’s personal - and with major consequences for continuity.

Spider-Man & Wolverine #1 is available May 7th, 2025 from Marvel Comics.
