Financial Success Means The Devs Made Their Money Back Straight Away

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 was highly anticipated by fans after the release of the first game in 2018, which featured action RPG gameplay that was highly immersive with historically accurate content. The anticipation has been met with overwhelming success from players, with studio co-founder Daniel Vávra commenting on the launch in an interview with Seznam Zprávy. His translated comments reveal that "Before the launch, we at the studio made a bet on how many copies we would sell. And I won...we are satisfied with the numbers, and if the trend continues at the same pace, it will be great."

Vávra confirmed that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 was moved forward a week to its eventual February 4 launch, due to competition with Assassin's Creed Shadows. However, Shadows would go on to be postponed to March 20, resulting in a clear schedule for Warhorse Studios to garner their commercial success. Vávra humorously noted in the interview that "I think they may have pushed the premiere of the new installment in the series back because of us," before seriously affirming that the postponement came as "great news for us."

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 debuted to an overwhelmingly positive reception from fans and critics alike, as it has built upon the foundations of its predecessor. KC: D1 was confirmed to have sold eight million copies worldwide, according to a press statement, as of November 2024, and the sequel may pass this soon. KC: D2 has built on the authentic medieval RPG experience, free from any fantasy elements and focusing instead on a brutally honest depiction of a Bohemian soldier.KC: D2 features a map that is twice the size of its predecessor, with a script of over 2 million words.

The combat has been adjusted to be more player-friendly in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, making blocking and enemy engagement far more intuitive as the previous game suffered from frustrating and overwhelming enemy AI. Henry of Skalitz's story has been continued well, keeping the authentic gameplay while expanding to new locations like Kutná Hora. While there have been no further statistics on the game's rapid financial success, nearly a week on from its debut, it may even match KC: D1's lifetime sales in as little as a week.
