Married At First Sight: David Trimble Admits To "Stepping Out" On Michelle Tomblin In Shocking Explanation Response To Cheating Scandal

Married at First Sight season 18's David Trimble gave an explanation in response to the cheating sext message scandal that his wife, Michelle Tomblin, uncovered. David and Michelle have been facing challenges all season long. Initially, Michelle detested that David lived in a unit in his parents' home and smoked cigarettes. It escalated to Michelle not liking David's clothing and communication styles and she has also expressed in roundabout ways that David is less than compared to her. Now, there is a scandal plaguing their marriage, and David has finally spoken on it.

David was on the most recent episode of Married at First Sight's After Party, where he was interviewed by host, Keisha Knight-Pullam. In the video, via @mafsfan, Keisha asks David if he's cheating on Michelle. David had pointedly replied that he was not cheating, but went on to expand.

"No, I'm not cheating. Maybe I stepped out emotionally and just regards to looking for some attraction, like hey, this or that, maybe emotionally."

Keisha pressed him once more about whether he "fooled around," and David asserted that he hadn't. Keisha gave a suspecting and doubtful "Okay," to David's response.

What David's "Stepping Out" On Michelle Explanation Means

David Is Trying To Justify

David denied the physical form of cheating, but did admit to emotionally cheating. By acknowledging that he stepped out on Michelle, David is holding himself accountable, albeit too late, but he was also endeavoring to justify his type of cheating. It is fair to say that David has been put through the ringer by Michelle. She has demeaned, ignored, emasculated, and embarrassed David throughout the season. However, that does not give David the right to look elsewhere for validation.

The evidence against David is overwhelming. Not only did he ask his cousin to cover for him but he also denied any wrongdoing in the first place. He orchestrated a lie, which denotes the levels of deception David is capable of. David is only taking a half-responsibility, and his response and Keisha's reaction to it leaves room for more being discovered as the season goes on.

Our Take On David's Cheating Scandal Response

David Is Doubling Down

Lifetime's David is doubling down on his word about not actually cheating on Michelle.

The whole situation is concerning and David is avoiding being held responsible.

The "You are so damn fine I just wanna eat U up" text message was meant for someone, and Married at First Sight fans have yet to find out who it was meant for. Since season 18 does have a cheating scandal, and David and Allen Slovick's wife, Madison Myers, are close, the rumor is that Madison was the intended recipient of the "sext."

There was a preview for the next episode of Married at First Sight season 18 at the end of the latest episode, and Michelle was shown surmising that Madison and David have something going on and Michelle will take action to call her suspicions out. How David reacts on the show will be very telling for viewers. He could either dig himself a deeper hole, or provide more clarity on the situation and his part in being dubious.

Married At First Sight airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. EST on Lifetime.
