Marvel's Unconventional Fantastic Four Trailer Release Frustrates Fans
The Fantastic Four: First Steps' trailer has been released, but Marvel Cinematic Universe fans have one big problem with it. Marvel Studios has done a great job of keeping the story of the Fantastic Four's MCU debut mostly a secret, save for Galactus and the Silver Surfer's inclusion in it, before release. Now, with the release of the anticipated MCU movie's first trailer, fans got to finally have a look at the franchise's new superhero team. While the trailer itself was exciting, the release strategy behind it has left some fans furious.
Marvel Studios has released the first trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, but the way it happened did not sit well with many fans.
A day before release, Marvel announced that the trailer for the MCU's Fantastic Four debut would be released at 7 AM ET. However, the countdown was delayed by one hour when that time came. Then, it added 30 extra minutes, which were not real, but led to an extended interview with The Fantastic Four: First Steps' cast before the trailer was finally unveiled. Fans took to the trailer's comments on YouTube to criticize the multiple delays.
Why The Fantastic Four Trailer Release Was Unconventional
The MCU Movie Is Quite Special
While the release strategy was not that well received byfans, who criticized the added wait to the time Marvel had first announced, especially since it was early in the day, there is a clear explanation for it. The Fantastic Four: First Steps is one of the most important movies in MCU history. The team has already had two live-action franchises, which were not as epic as the comics. The upcoming film marks the first time that Marvel Studios releases a live-action Fantastic Four movie, so it makes sense that all stops are being pulled.
Marvel Studios wanted to make The Fantastic Four: First Steps' trailer release feel like a major event for superhero movie fans. To that end, Marvel even had a physical event that brought the cast of the MCU movie together to hit the button to launch the trailer. The added hour to the wait led to more people waking up and tuning into the countdown across Marvel's social media profiles. Over the past few years, as Deadpool & Wolverine showed, Marvel has also experimented more with its marketing for major projects, so that could have been part of the move.
Our Take On The Fantastic Four's Unconventional Trailer Release
Marvel Could Have Handled Things Better
I understand why fans have criticized Marvel's release strategy for the MCU's Fantastic Four movie trailer. While I did enjoy the physical event with Pedro Pascal and the rest of the cast, I wish the interview portion had been done faster. By that point, fans already had to wait an extra hour after what had been initially announced, and so the slower pace of the physical event only added to the criticism about the ordeal on social media. Despite what transpired, I enjoyed The Fantastic Four: First Steps' trailer as the MCU movie is on the right track.
