Ms. Marvel Star Iman Vellani Shares Her Negative Review Of Madame Web 11 Months After The Marvel Movie's Release

Ms. Marvel's Iman Vellani is the latest person to share a negative review for Madame Web. The Sony Spider-Man Universe did not perform well at the box office, which was in part due to negative reviews from critics and the audience alike. Madame Web was one of the three movies in the SSU that faced criticism in 2024, though it and Kraven the Hunter fared worse than Venom: The Last Dance overall. Now, the rising Marvel Cinematic Universe star Iman Vellani shares her honest opinion on Madame Web.

On Letterboxd,Iman Vellani gave Madame Web 0.5 out of 5 stars, a very negative rating. Interestingly, the MCU star also gave the Sony Spider-Man Universe film a heart, which means someone loves a movie even if they did not give it a good rating and is also used to pick favorites among those with high ratings. Vellani has been known for her Letterboxd opinions for quite some time, with the most famous case being her 2 out of 5 rating for Captain Marvel, saying, "These stars are not for Brie Larson, I will sacrifice my own life…for Brie Larson."

What Iman Vellani's Madame Web Rating Means

The MCU Star Has Two Conflicting Opinions About The Movie

Iman Vellani's rating for Madame Web is interesting. At face value, one would think the actress severely disliked the SSU film. It is hard to fault her, asMadame Web was a movie riddled with problems. From a disjointed script to some of the worst ADR in superhero movies to poor dialogue and more, Madame Web was simply not an exciting movie by any measure. Even stars like Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney gave in to the criticism and jokes about the movie during the SSU film's press tour.

However, Vellani did give a heart to the movie in her Letterboxd rating, which separates it from the other negative Madame Web reviews. Since the function on the review platform serves to point out that someone still has a special place for a film even if they give it a low rating, it seems like the Ms. Marvel actress does not entirely dislike Madame Web. Based on her harsh 0.5 out of 5 rating for the SSU film, Vellani might simply have wanted to soften the blow, or the MCU star enjoyed how unintentionally hilarious Madame Web is.

Our Take On Iman Vellani's Madame Web Rating

The MCU Actress Is Right

I agree with Vellani's low rating for Madame Web. The movie is sadly one of the worst superhero films ever made, which is disappointing, as I had better hopes for the project due to its talented female-led cast. Despite featuring stars like Dakota Johnson and Sydney Sweeney, Madame Web suffered from a boring story, a bad villain, and nonsensical characters with unnatural dialogue. A 0.5/5 rating for the film is justified. That said, I can also understand Vellani's choice to give Madame Web a heart, as I had some fun watching supposedly serious scenes turn out to be hilarious.
