NPS biologists estimate that the herd of bison on the North Rim, brought in as a herd of 100 in the early 1900s, has now grown to almost 600. Without management, biologists predict the herd could grow to as many as 1,500 animals within ten years—and they are concerned about impacts on water, vegetation, soil, and visitor experience. Lethal culling and non-lethal capture will be used.
