One Piece: Who Is Shamrock, a Missing Figure From Shanks' Past?
Warning: Contains spoilers for One Piece chapter #1137.Ever since One Piece’s Levely arc, a major theory among fans has been that Shanks has an evil twin. Much of the support for that came from somewhat circumstantial evidence, like how Shanks’ scar was never shown when he spoke with the Five Elders, but with a mysterious Shanks-like figure appearing on Elbaph who still doesn’t have a visible scar, the plausibility is impossible to deny.
The “Shanks has an evil twin” theory only became more plausible with every passing chapter, and it’s finally reached its tipping point. One Piece chapter #1137 finally gave people the full look of the manga’s mysterious Shanks-like figure, and sure enough, One Piece chapter #1137 finally confirms that the Shanks-like figure with ties to the World Government isn’t Shanks and is, in all likelihood, Shanks’ twin brother. There still isn’t much known about this character, but what is known and what can be assumed still promises one of One Piece’s best new villains, by far.
Everything We Know About One Piece’s New Villain, Figarland Shamrock
Figarland Shamrock's Character Explained
One Piece chapter #1137 formally identified the mysterious Shanks-like figure as Figarland Shamrock, the current leader of the Holy Knights and the son of Figarland Garling. Shamrock being Garling’s son was assumed ever since Shanks was all but stated to be a Figarland in One Piece Film: Red, and with how uncanny a resemblance they share right down to having similarly phonetic names, One Piece has now all but stated that Figarland Shamrock is the evil twin of Shanks.
Shamrock’s power is also easy to surmise. The Holy Knights have already been set up as some of the strongest villains in the series, and since he took over Garling’s position as leader, Shamrock, by being the leader of the Holy Knights, can be assumed to be one of the strongest villains in One Piece after Imu and the Five Elders. Much of that is speculative, of course, but since One Piece’s Elbaph arc will be the first time the Holy Knights are active in the story, it shouldn’t be too long before Shamrock’s full power is established.
One Piece Is Setting Up Luffy’s Biggest Conflict In Years
There’s plenty to be excited about with Figarland Shamrock, and that’s especially true when considering what he means for Luffy. The Elbaph arc is the first time in years that Luffy’s relationship with Shanks has taken center stage, and with Shamrock being the main villain of the arc, Shamrock’s physical similarities to Shanks could force Luffy through an emotional crisis as he fights someone who looks exactly like his hero. One Piece doesn’t usually put Luffy through stories like that, so a change like that could make for some very interesting developments, overall.
Much of the conflict can also come from what Shamrock might reveal about Shanks. Even if Shanks isn’t working with the World Government, there are undoubtedly secrets about him that almost certainly relate to his family, so not only could Shamrock finally shed some light on Shanks’ past, but Shamrock could manipulate Luffy by making up stories about Shanks’ allegiances that he’d have no way of verifying. Whatever the case, there’s plenty to be excited about with Figarland Shamrock, and with any luck, One Piece won’t hesitate to utilize the full potential of his character.
