Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Launches First 2025 Event, Celebrating Year of the Snake

Pokémon Scarlet & Violet will celebrate the start of 2025 with a new snake-themed event. As the current "main series" Pokémon game, Pokemon Scarlet & Violet has diligently kept players entertained with a series of different events. Typically, these events fall into one of two categories - Mass Outbreak events or Raid events. The former adds Mass Outbreaks of various Pokémon species to the game's three maps (often with a higher chance of encountering Shiny Pokémon), while the latter adds challenging raid battles like the recently concluded Shiny Rayquaza event.

This weekend, Pokémon Scarlet & Violet will host a new Mass Outbreak event to celebrate 2025 as the Year of the Snake. Mass Outbreaks will appear in all three of Pokémon Scarlet & Violet's regions, with Silicobra appearing more often in Mass Outbreaks in Paldea, Ekans appearing in Kitakami, and Seviper appearing in the Blueberry Academy. All three Pokémon species will have a higher likelihood of being Shiny while appearing in Mass Outbreaks. The new Mass Outbreak event will run from 00:00 UTC on January 10th (7 PM ET on January 9th) through 23:59 UTC on January 12th (7 PM ET on January 12th).

What Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Events Are Coming In 2025?

Mass Outbreak Event Is Only Currently Scheduled Event, But Expect More Support

Currently, the Year of the Snake Mass Outbreak event is the only event announced for Pokémon Scarlet & Violet in 2025. However, several events will likely take place at some point in the future. For one, we'll likely get some kind of raid event featuring the Legendary Paradox Pokémon featured in the Indigo Disk DLC, similar to the Paradox Pokémon raids that took place in 2023. We could also see events featuring Pokémon from Pokémon Legends Arceus, especially in the lead-up to the upcoming Pokémon Legends ZA game.

While Pokémon Legends ZA will be released at some point in 2025, expect to see events similar to the Mass Outbreak events continue in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet. Assuming that Pokémon Legends ZA has a similar build/battle system to Pokémon Legends: Arceus, The Pokémon Company will continue to use Pokémon Scarlet & Violet as their official Pokémon game for competitive events, which means that more events will continue until the release of Gen 10 games sometime in the future.

Our Take: There Are Cooler Snake Pokémon

Pokemon Missed An Easy Opportunity With Serperior

These Mass Outbreak events are fine, but they could have enhanced the events with the addition of Serperior. All three species featured in the Mass Outbreak are pretty common, so bringing in a Pokémon species that typically don't appear in the wild would have made this event much more fun.

As is, the new Mass Outbreak event for Pokémon Scarlet & Violet is only really for Shiny collectors and players looking for something to do in their Pokémon games over the weekend.
