Ryan Gosling & Emily Blunt's $181M Action Movie Just Broke A 9-Year Awards Streak & It Couldn't Be More Fitting

Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt's overlooked 2024 action comedy finally got some of the recognition it deserves at the 2025 SAG Awards. The first two awards of the night, Outstanding Film Stunt Ensemble and Outstanding Television Stunt Ensemble, were given out on the SAG Awards Red Carpet, presented by The Recruit's Owen Centineo and Carry-on's Sofia Carson. FX's Shōgun took home the award in the television category, kicking off its decorated night.

The complete list of 2025 SAG Award winners included Demi Moore (The Substance) winning Best Actress over Mikey Madison (Anora) and Timothée Chalamet (A Complete Unknown) winning Best Actor over Adrien Brody (The Brutalist). Both Supporting Actor and Actress categories were more straightforward, with Kieran Culkin winning for A Real Pain and Zoe Saldaña winning for Emilia Pérez, both of whom picked up their first Golden Globes for a performance in a film earlier this year.

The Fall Guy Is The First Non-Franchise Movie To Win The Outstanding Film Stunt Ensemble SAG Award Since 2016

2016's Hacksaw Ridge Was The Last Non-Franchise Winner In The SAG Category

The Fall Guy, a blockbuster that celebrates the history and legacy of stunt workers in Hollywood, earned a redemptive and well-deserved SAG Award for Best Stunt Ensemble. It became the first non-franchise feature film to take home the award since 2016's Hacksaw Ridge. Last year's winner was Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, which came after 2023's winner Top Gun: Maverick, 2022's winner No Time to Die, and 2021's winner Wonder Woman 1984 – which all belong to major film franchises.

The Fall Guy was up against some pretty stiff competition, especially two of the best franchise sequels of the year – Dune: Part Two and Gladiator II. Ultimately, it was the right choice to win the Best Stunt Ensemble SAG Award because of how it represented and raised due awareness of stunt workers in Hollywood, one of the most overlooked groups of essential workers in the filmmaking industry.

The Fall Guy was also directed by a former stunt performer, David Leitch, and features Gosling as stunt double Colt Seavers in an adaptation of a classic TV show of the same name. The Fall Guy may not have been a box office hit but its big win at the 2025 SAG Awards is extremely fitting and finally offers the great film something to celebrate.
