In a $2.6 million partnership between UC Davis, Johns Hopkins University, and the San Francisco–based Save the Redwoods League, scientists are seeking to decode the genome of California’s grandest trees. By uncovering the DNA of coast redwoods and giant sequoias, they hope to figure out ways to protect them from climate change (and even use what they find to combat said climate change).
