Severance's "Exports Hall" & How It Connects To Irving's Painting Mystery
Warning: Contains SPOILERS for Severance season 2, episode 3!
The introduction of the Exports Hall is one of the biggest moments in Severance season 2, episode 3, and here's what it is and how it connects to the mystery surrounding Irving's paintings. Despite being an outie, Irving has been painting images that seem to be of locations on the severed floor, with Irving's innie seeing them when the Overtime Contingency was activated. How Irving's outie knows about these images is one of the biggest mysteries in Severance season 2, and episode 3 just added another piece to the puzzle.
Throughout the first three episodes of Severance season 2, each member of the main cast of Severance has been mostly focused on their own side quests. Mark has been working on finding Gemma/Ms. Casey, Dylan has been attempting to get a new job and meet his outie's wife, and Helly's mysterious motivations have raised all kinds of questions. Meanwhile, Irving has continued his quest to locate Burt, with his outie's paintings playing a big part in this.
Severance Confirms That Outie Irving Has Been Paining Lumon's "Exports Hall"
Somehow He Knows About The O&D Room
While looking for Gemma during Severance season 2, episode 3, Irving returns to the O&D department for the first time since Burt's retirement. While there, Irving shows another O&D team member named Felicia a sketchbook that is filled with drawings of Burt. While flipping through the book, Felicia sees recreations of the paintings that Irving saw during the Overtime Contingency, with her recognizing the images.
Felicia tells Irving that the images seem to be of a location called the "Exports Hall," a room on the severed floor that has never been mentioned before. Felicia explains that O&D team members used to make deliveries to the Exports Hall all the time. However, this isn't the case anymore, with a liaison coming and getting deliveries from O&D and taking them to the Exports Hall himself. Although this doesn't fully resolve the mystery of Irving's paintings, it does at least let viewers know what the paintings are of.
Why It Makes Sense That O&D Connects To Irving's Hallways Painting
Irving Somehow Found Out About It
Having Irving's outie paint images of the Exports Hall makes sense, as it connects to O&D. Since Burt worked at O&D, it makes sense that Irving would be interested in it, as he has wanted to know everything about Burt since his retirement. It seems like the love that Irving's innie had for Burt is so strong that it has carried over into Irving's outie, allowing him to paint the images.
It still isn't known how Irving's innie actually saw the Exports Hall images, with this mystery still remaining. However, further details on this issue could highlight how the image was subconsciously burned into Irving's brain, with it also having the potential to open up a new pathway for communication between innies and outies in Severance season 2.
