South Dakota Bison Find New Home in Arizona

Officials hope the Wind Cave herd's pure genetic line will strengthen the Arizona population.

Northern Arizona’s Raymond Wildlife Area is set to welcome a herd of bison from South Dakota’s Wind Cave area. The Wind Cave animals come from a population with an undiluted genetic line–unlike Arizona’s bison, which have cattle genes. Arizona Game and Fish officials hope the new herd will improve the population’s sustainability.
