After Emperor Palpatine's death in Return of the Jedithe Empire fractured, and Fleet Admiral Gallius Rax carried out Palpatine's Contingency, to destroy the New Republic, along with the Imperials who failed their Emperor, leaving only the most ruthless loyalists behind to build a new, stronger Empire. On the other hand, Moff Adelhard strived to continue the Empire as it was, fearing losing the power he once had. Believing he was the future of the Empire, appointed by Darth Vader himself, Adelhard turned against Rax and his Shadow Council.

Moff Adelhard believed that he understood where his former leaders had failed, and that could do better. Adelhard believed it was Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader's faith in the Force rather than their Empire, that led to their downfall, but after an encounter with Luke Skywalker, he understood he needed to embrace the Force himself. After his betrayal by his allies, Adelhard set in motion a new contingency; instead of taking over the Empire, he would tear down what was, and build a new Empire in his own image – effectively adopting Palpatine's contingency, but for his own ends.

Adelhard's Forces Add A New, Unexpected Wrinkle To The Highly Anticipated Battle Of Jakku

Moff Adelhard's plan to destroy both his enemies at once, the New Republic and the Empire, led him to Jakku, where Counselor Rax was already gathering both sides for a final showdown, where he planned to take them both out at the same time. Adelhard's presence at the Battle of Jakku hints that Marvel Comics' portrayal of the Battle of Jakku still has brand-new details to contribute to Star Wars lore before this miniseries is over. While the story was already exciting, this gives fans of the franchise even more reason to check it out.

It now seems that the Battle of Jakku will be Adelhard's last stand, and Luke, Princess Leia, and Han Solo will put an end to Adelhard's plans over the planet.

The Battle of Jakku comic series has put much of its focus on Moff Adelhard rather than the battle itself, and the creative decision is finally paying off. It now seems that the Battle of Jakku will be Adelhard's last stand, and Luke, Princess Leia, and Han Solo will put an end to Adelhard's plans over the planet. References could be made to other Star Wars media, like what has been happening throughout the series, especially towards Chuck Wendig's Aftermath series where the Battle of Jakku originated, but the main focus will be on stopping Adelhard and his new contingency.

Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku - Last Stand #1is available now from Marvel Comics.
