Green, quiet, and a little weird—these words describe both the state and this hike into .2-mile-long Devil’s Gulch. Pass through the emerald gorge, so named by Long Trail hikers because of its mossy, ankle-busting boulders, en route to a young forest that kisses Big Muddy Pond. Approach quietly to spy bears and moose drinking at the edge.

Distance 4 miles (loop) Trailhead 44.762162, -72.602078 Drive time 1:08 from Burlington Season May to November Contact
