According to the WTA, the Lake Serene Trail is one of the most popular in Washington. But hikers could be denied access for 8 months if Weyerhauser, who owns property that surrounds a section of the trail, decides to log. Their proposal: issue an official temporary closure order from September 5, 2017, to July 1, 2018. The Forest Service is currently taking comment; the Everett Herald offers this opinion.
UPDATE: Kiro 7 reports that conservation groups are fighting hard to preserve the trail.
