Before the teenage survivors enter the cave after Mari leads them back there, the rest of the group hears the screeching, and it only stops after Natalie Scatorccio (Sophie Thatcher) fires a gun. At this point, all the characters in the wilderness have heard the noise, and they must figure out whether it poses a threat to their survival.

The Noise May Be Confirmation Of What Lottie Believes

If the "It" of the wilderness is real, and if it is truly supernatural, the screeching noise may be an embodiment of that. The noise may be a way of "It" communicating with all the survivors, since "It" no longer communicates solely with Lottie.
