Honkai: Star Rail Needs To Revisit Its Other Maps With A Special Amphoreus Update
A new Amphoreus update added to Honkai: Star Rail proves that developer HoYoverse needs to revisit its previous destinations’ maps and add it. Version 3.0 arrived earlier this year, bringing forth a series of modifications and new gameplay mechanics to the turn-based RPG. Some of the most notable ones are the time control mechanic, as well as Remembrance as a new playable Path. In addition to that, Version 3.0 also introduced Amphoreus to Honkai: Star Rail, a brand-new and mysterious destination, also known as The Eternal Land, where the majority of this year’s narrative content will take place and develop.
The aforementioned time control mechanic is exclusive to Amphoreus. Players can rewind time to unlock access to areas that were otherwise blocked by debris, for example. This is even applied to some treasures. Some chests can be stolen by a Spirithief, and the time control mechanic is the way of bringing the thief back. Aside from naturally locating them, players will have to solve puzzles to find some of the treasure chests in Okhema. These are merely some of the many exclusive mechanics added to Amphoreus, but one of them should actually be incorporated in older Honkai: Star Rail maps.
Amphoreus' Flying Amphoras Are A Great Honkai: Star Rail Map Feature
This Feature Increases Movement Speed In The Overworld
One of the best additions to the Amphoreus maps is called Flying Amphoras. These targettable floating objects can be destroyed with characters’ attacks and, upon doing so, the team comps’ movement speed is drastically increased for a short period. This allows players to quickly traverse Amphoreus’s many streets and halls, especially when their destination is far from a Space Anchor that allows them to quickly teleport to where they want to be. Essentially, Flying Amphoras is a quick boost that players can activate and make them move as if they had used the Technique by Yukong in Honkai: Star Rail.
As was already explained by the developers from HoYoverse during the Version 3.0 livestream, Flying Amphoras is a mechanic that was added to Amphoreus because of the sheer size of the destination’s maps. Everything in Okhema, for example, is spread far apart and a lot of walking and running is needed to get from point A to point B. Even though Space Anchors still fulfill their role and allow players to zap around strategic locations, there are still areas that are considerably far from the waypoints, and that’s where the Flying Amphoras feature in Honkai: Star Rail comes in handy.
Flying Amphoras Should Be Adapted For Previous Honkai: Star Rail Destinations
The Destructible Item Could Be Adapted In The Same Way Technique Points & HP Objects Are
These Flying Amphoras are extremely helpful when exploring Amphoreus, but they should not be limited to The Eternal Land. In fact, a mechanic similar to it should be developed for each of the key destinations that HoYoverse has already explored on the Astral Express’ adventure. While Flying Amphoras are thematically limited to Amphoreus, they could be adapted for other locations, in the same way that the team comp’s Technique Points and HP can be recovered from destructible objects across all different destinations, even if each destination has a different design for the destructible object in Honkai: Star Rail.
As such, Flying Amphoras could also be adapted to the game’s previous maps. Similar to the way that they are placed in Amphoreus, Flying Amphoras don’t necessarily need to be spread across all of a destination’s maps nor have them placed too regularly along paths, but in locations that could help players when the place they want to reach is too far away. Increased movement speed in the overworld would’ve been an excuse to avoid battles, but there are so many characters in Honkai: Star Rail with pacifying Techniques that players will avoid combat if they so choose to.
When Yukong was first released, for example, her increased movement speed via her Technique was marketed in a way that players would consider they had a new option to avoid combat, for example.
Nowadays, avoiding combat isn’t all that rare anymore, and players can pacify enemies with Robin or freeze them with Jingliu, so running away from them is just another tool among many. Overall, the increased movement speed from a mechanic like Flying Amphoras in previous destinations would simply serve as a means of getting from point A to point B in a faster way, saving time that could later be spent on farming resources and engaging in some of the game’s repetitive activities that require a bit more investment, such as Memory of Chaos in Honkai: Star Rail.
Exploring Older Honkai: Star Rail Destinations Could Be Perfected With Flying Amphoras
Even Smaller Maps Could Benefit From The Mechanic
Overall, there is a lot to gain from the inclusion of a Flying Amphoras equivalent to older maps in the game. Even though Penacony’s Golden Hour map has a few well-positioned Space Anchors across it, a lot of the map needs invested exploration to reach, and that could be facilitated with a Flying Amphoras mechanic. This would help save players’ time, especially when considering how large Penacony is, even if it is still smaller than Amphoreus. Nevertheless, it would be greatly beneficial, especially in maps that don’t have roaming enemies in Honkai: Star Rail, such as Golden Hour itself.
Even smaller maps that pale in comparison to the Golden Hour, like Jarilo-VI’s Administrative District and Boulder Town, the Xianzhou Luofu’s Central Starskiff Haven and Skysplitter, or even Herta Space Station’s Master Control Zone could benefit from increased movement speed. This would not discourage exploration, but hasten it in a healthy way. Players who want to uncover all the secrets and solve all puzzles will still take the time to do so, but players who want to first get through some quests and move forward in Honkai: Star Rail’s campaign would be able to quickly do so.
This is especially true considering how big the turn-based RPG is getting with every update. The more patches that come in, the more new players have to catch up with, and allowing them to get up to date with the newer content should be the developer’s priority. Players wouldn’t necessarily skip content but be able to enjoy it at a faster pace.
The game is expected to increase significantly in size as Amphoreus should be in the spotlight across a total of eight consecutive patches – not all of which will necessarily add maps, but the Honkai: Star Rail 3.0 maps already gave players some insight into what they can expect this year.
