Monster Hunter Wilds: How To Cure & Prevent Bleeding

Monster Hunter Wilds is finally here, featuring a diverse range of monster types compared to recent entries and plenty of new challenges to face in the forbidden lands, and one uniquely dangerous threat is the infliction of bleeding. Even though the initial trailer made it seem like there wasn't much room left for new surprises, Wilds had plenty more fantastical environments and even more dangerous foes. While it can be easy to get distracted by exciting returns and incredibly unique newcomers to the series, knowing how to handle status effects makes a huge difference during hunts.

Out of all the status effects hunters can encounter, including waterblight, poison, burning, dragonblight, and more, the bleed effect is one of the deadliest you can come across. While bleeding is far from the most common status effect throughout the franchise with only a handful of creatures dishing it out, it can quickly become a problem when combined with fast-paced attack patterns. Regardless of whichever monster type you come across or which ailment they can affect, having a reliable flow of supplies like knowing where to farm honey for Mega Potions will be a massive help in the long run.

How To Cure Bleeding

Keeping An Eye On The Status Bar Is A Great Habit

The deadliest aspect of the bleeding effect comes from dealing small amounts of damage any time you move, attack, or dodge, with the latter option dealing the most damage by far. Unlike many other status effects, bleeding won't go away on its own while moving, but the easiest way to cancel the bleed effect is by crouching for a few seconds in place. While it sounds simple in concept, the monster you'll encounter dealing the Bleed effect has an incredibly fast attack pattern, which leaves little room for respite.

Bleed also prevents automatic healing over time, making it essential to cure right away if you want to save your recoverable health without wasting a healing potion.

If you don't have time to wait around for the Bleed effect to go away or simply want to get back into the fight sooner, eating a piece of Wild Jerky, Ration, or a Well-Done Steak will instantly cure the bleeding status effect as well. The easiest option is often to get a hold of Wild Jerky by purchasing them from the provisions' dealer in any of the base camps, which is what I've relied on, where they cost a relatively cheap 98 zenny each.

Does Monster Hunter Wilds Have New Game Plus?

With Monster Hunter Wilds being a spiritual successor to World, there's one area of improvement which could add much more replayability to the game.

Eating Wild Jerky or rations is by far the best method when it comes to managing bleed, especially considering that one of Wilds' best new features is the optimal healing and status effect buttons. With the additional healing features, you can instantly activate items like the Wild Jerky without having to manually scroll through your hotbar each time.

How To Prevent Bleeding

Saving Time When Facing Deadly New Monsters

While there aren't enough monsters that deal bleed damage to warrant a build solely dedicated to the mechanic, it can still be useful if you find yourself farming Ebony Odaragon for extended periods. Given how powerful some of Odagaron's armor and weapons can be, crafting a bleed-resistant charm might be a good investment to hold off its sharp claws' effects during a fight.

While Monster Hunter Wilds has been met with high praise, there's one complaint that will be eerily familiar for long-time fans of the franchise.

The Ebony Odagaron armor itself is another great way to fend off the bleed effect, with the Greeves, Coil, and Mail offering one level of bleeding resistance each. Two of these armor pieces combined with a Bleed Charm will be more than enough to take down hordes of Odagaron. Even a bleeding-resistant decoration is a great option if you have one lying around and don't want to spend the extra materials, although utilizing focus attacks in Monster Hunter Wilds is also a great way to prevent a monster from being able to deal bleed damage in the first place.
